The origin of the Mob and its original intention
(As the topic has caught people’s attention I will look at a bit of the history that surrounds the groups involved)
The original God father was a good and virtuous person. In Sicily during a time when the city state did not have proper police and soldiers were needed to protect the state from enemies, lawlessness was ramped. Many businesses and merchants suffered many criminal acts like theft. The first godfather was the person who helped organise and was put in charge of an organised effort to maintain lawfulness and peace. He was well known and had baptized many people; as Christian customs dictate the person who baptises you is a spiritual father, or mother, and acts in such a manner. Often ones God father or Mother adopted a child if the parents had died. Moreover, the idea of a spiritual father unifying and protecting everyone in a city is a natural extension. The merchants and businesses willing paid a small amount of money to pay for those hired to do the policing. Often the connections that this organisation entailed allowed the God father to do favours for people easily as he knew or was known by everyone. In return such a favour, if asked one would return the favour. As no barter value was calculated for the favour people returned favours based on their abilities and resources. For example, if someone wanted a rare delicacy that one could not find, like a cheese from another nation, he would ask the God father to get him some. Often asking one of his people working to maintain the lawfulness was as good as asking the God father himself. In return if asked for a product or service one would return the favour. I got you the cheese can you get me some of your best wine. Some favours were based on creating peaceful relations and settling civil matters. Such favours were accomplished by negotiation and settled in the same manner. Killing and doing crimes was not part of the bargain as the original intent was to stop such evils from occurring. There are many reasons why from its inceptions the Mob has come to represent what it does. No I have no associations with anyone I know to be part of any mob. It does not matter what organisation you are part of as long as you are good and virtuous and do no evil.
More on what happened since the beginnings of the mob and why it has gained less lawful repute later.
