The term assassin has gained many negative connotations and is used to mean someone who kills and often does so for pay. The term actually means hash eater. It etymologically is derived from the founder of the assassins: Hasan a Hasan (also sometimes written as Hashan). . Hashan was a descendent of Alexander the great’s soldiers left in Afghanistan after he conquered the area. Hasan went up to the mountains to meditate and partake in a religious moment in seclusion, to get closer to God. He then interacted with God who gave him hash as a divine gift. Most likely as Afghanistan was part of India, Hasan was a lover of pot products like bang. Bang is a drink made with round pot, or de-leafed sun dried marijuana. Hasan ate the hash and found it to be a religious experience. The story claims that plants were given by God to produce the hash resin necessary to make hash. He returned to his people with this divine gift and it became popular amongst them. They named the resin after its finder (hasan’s) and called themselves assassins or eaters of hash. The peoples of this area were dispersed by the Mongols and no longer were a cohesive people in one area. The consumption of hashish spread throughout the adjacent areas and later the world. The religious ritual was commemorated by rolling raw resin into balls called temple balls that were burn in assassin temples. The assassins created a religious movement based on Hasan's enlightenment. Up to the 1930’s assassin clubs existed from the Americas to Asia to Europe and so on. These were gentleman’s clubs in which people ate hash and conversed on various topics.The word assassin gained the modern, eating it carries when a few bad apples began killing people for money after eating the hash. Some did not claim they ate the hash to assist them to kill so as to ignore their morality, which did not make such evil easy, nor did the hash. In fact these evil people would have killed people sober or on any substance, thus the hash consumption by such people was spurious and not in any way the cause or assistant to the killing. Since then the word assassin has come to mean killer and not the holy religious virtuous beginning it first had and has amongst circle circles. It was originally believed that the feeling of hash made you get closer to god as God gave this to Hasan upon climbing the mountain to get closer to God. This belief persisted amongst Muslims and other peoples. It is still considered a holy substance by many people. Hash is a resin cannabis or pot product and can be substituted for pot in the making of Solomon’s incense.
