The spoils of cities razed and warriors slain,
We share with justice, as with toil we gain;
But to resume whate'er thy avarice craves
(That trick of tyrants) may be borne by slaves.
Yet if our chief for plunder only fight,
The spoils of Ilion shall thy loss requite,
Whene'er, by Jove's decree, our conquering powers
Shall humble to the dust her lofty towers."
this passage contains a very interresting idea,: the trick of tyrants is gained by slaves
this passage contains a very interesting idea,: the trick of tyrants is gained by slaves. We share in the justice we act out, the spoils of war are granted to the conqueror, slaves are those now under the auspices of the tyrant, if you seek only spoils you suffer attrition, it is costly the justice you suffer reflects what you intend by conquest Our conquest humbles the towers of the conquered authority, knowledge and authority, we conquer through the authority not for spoils from peasants and not to capture slaves but to bind the towers of authority of the other with us, under our laws and justice, thus we should suffer only justice.
